These are high precision indicators for the accurate measurement of revolutions per minute or linear speeds in feet per minute and yards per minute. Being of the chronometric type, with a built in timing element operating over a fixed period of three seconds, this speed indicator is especially suitable for accurate measurements of constant speeds.

The instrument operates in a totally automatic fashion. Once the start button is depressed, the indicator will begin to register revolutions over a fixed period of three seconds. The hands then stop and the reading may be taken from the dial at leisure. The pointer remains in a fixed position until returned to zero by depressing the reset button. The Kernco speed indicators may be used on either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotating shafts and for measuring surface speeds. They are unaffected by magnetic fields, ambient temperature or moderate vibration.

The instrument has a large, easy to read dial, with black figures indicating revolutions per minute and red figures on the inner circle indicating feet per minute readings, without any calculations. Yards per minute is measured by using the RPM (black scale) divided by 10. Both models come with a carrying case that includes an extension bar, surface wheel, pointed rubber tip and concave rubber tip.
